As you all know, I’m all about a good travel deal. About a month ago, I saw a sign when I was flying out of Reno airport that said “fly and ski for free.”

I snowboarded for FREE in Tahoe and I loved it!

This is the sign I saw in the Reno airport that alerted me of this awesome ski and snowboard for FREE deal!

This is the sign I saw in the Reno airport that alerted me of this awesome ski and snowboard for FREE deal!

So of course, I researched it and found that it was true! If you fly into the Reno/Tahoe airport, you can ski for free at Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows and Sierra-at-Tahoe on the SAME day you land. All you have to do is show your boarding pass and a valid I.D. at the ticket window! I tried it this past week flying Southwest Airlines and it was really easy breezy. Make sure your arrival day is Sunday - Friday, as Saturday is exempt from the deal.

After some more research, I realized there are quite a few ski resorts that offer similar deals, sometimes limited to specific airlines, so I’ve laid out the details below.  I also recommend always checking the terms and conditions for the specific resort you’d like to visit to see if your flight and arrival dates are eligible.

With the ski season in full swing, there is still time to take advantage of these deals. It’s obviously easier and less crowded on weekdays, but get out while you can!

Mammoth Mountain, California

In addition to the amazing deals at Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Sierra-at-Tahoe, Mammoth Mountain has a similar deal. If you fly from or connect through Denver or San Francisco airport to Mammoth Lakes on any airline, you can show your boarding pass for a free lift ticket, valid on the day you arrive. Their offer ends on April 2, 2020 and there are a few black-out dates. 2/15-20 - 2/16/20 is exempt, so make sure you plan around these if you’re trying to use this deal!

Alaska

If you’re flying into Anchorage Airport, you can ski for free on the day you arrive at Alyeska Resort. This is valid Monday - Friday only and only for Alaska Airlines passengers. There is a similar deal at the Eaglecrest Ski Area if you fly into Juneau Airport. Your morning flight will give you a free lift ticket for the day you arrive. This airport is only 15 minutes away from the slopes, so you’ll be skiing in no time!

Colorado

At the Steamboat Ski Resort, they have two different deals, depending on what airline you’re flying into Steamboat Springs Airport with. If you’re flying Alaska Airlines to/from Seattle or San Diego, you can get a complimentary day of skiing or snowboarding on your departure date.

If you fly any other U.S. airline, you are eligible for a night skiing ticket valid the day you arrive. Tuesday and Wednesday arrivals get a ticket for Thursday night, as there is no night skiing on those days. Night skiing in the Rockies would be epic, as the snow is lighter and fluffier in Colorado!

Idaho

Bogus Basin will give you free access to their slopes for the rest of the day if you fly into Boise on Alaska Airlines. A flight into Spokane Airport makes you eligible for a free lift ticket at Schweitzer Mountain Resort on the day you arrive. Make sure you book some early flights to take full advantage! There are some black-out dates to keep in mind: 2/15/20 - 2/17/20, so plan around these.

Montana

Montana has some departure day deals! At Red Lodge Mountain, you can redeem one free lift ticket with your Alaska boarding pass and your flight should be through the airport at Billings. If you’re skiing at Whitefish Resort, you can also use your boarding pass from Glacier Park International Airport to get one free lift ticket on the day you leave. Glacier Park is only 19 miles away, so plan it right and you can have a good day in the snow before heading home. The offer is not valid between 2/15/20 - 2/17/20.

Oregon

Do you want to ski for free in Oregon? If you fly to the Bend/Redmond Airport with Alaska Airlines you can get a free lift ticket on the day you arrive at the Mount Bachelor Ski Resort. The airport is close to the mountain, so you have plenty of time for some good slope time if you arrive early!

Canada

Fly into Kelowna to ski for free at Big White Ski Resort on your arrival day with a WestJet or Alaska Airlines flight. If you’re already in Canada and flying WestJet, you even get a bonus of free night skiing between December and March.

Ski Marmot Basin has two different offers if you fly through Edmonton Airport with Alaska or Flair Airlines. You can either get a free full-day ticket for your arrival day or you can purchase a 3-day ticket for the price of a 2-day ticket lift ticket. The good news is that the 3-day ticket doesn’t have to be used on your arrival day, so you can relax after your trip. The airport is about four hours away, so the 3-day deal is pretty appealing!
